Charitable gift annuity

When you make a formal agreement to support our mission by donating cash, stocks or other assets to Scripps Research through a charitable gift annuity, you (or someone you designate) can receive a fixed income stream for the rest of your life. You’ll receive a tax deduction at the time you make your donation and can choose to begin receiving income immediately or defer payments until a later date, such as retirement.

Charitable remainder trust

You can support scientific discovery, reduce your taxes and receive an income stream for your lifetime when you create a charitable remainder trust designating Scripps Research as your charity of choice. Charitable remainder trusts allow you to avoid capital gains tax on assets held in the trust, whether through a Charitable Remainder Unitrust (with a variable rate of income based on market value) or Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (with a fixed rate of income).

Retained life estate

Your home can support scientific research while sheltering you for the rest of your life. When you transfer your home’s title to Scripps Research, you avoid capital gains tax on the appreciated value, receive a charitable contribution tax deduction and continue living right where you are.

Charitable lead trusts

A charitable lead trust is designed to reduce the taxable income of your beneficiaries by first donating a portion of the trust’s income to Scripps Research. After a fixed number of years, the remaining assets in the trust go to you, your loved ones or any other beneficiary you designate.

Bequests

You can fuel future innovation and medical breakthroughs by naming Scripps Research as a beneficiary in your will or living trust. Gifts of retirement and life insurance plans

If you have an IRA, 401(k), life insurance policy or any other assets not included in your will, you can support life-changing science at Scripps Research by naming the institute as a beneficiary for these non-probate assets. You may also be eligible to directly donate to Scripps Research from your IRA during your lifetime through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). Learn more about QCDs here.
