Education & Outreach

The future of science depends on the people who will carry it forward—training the next generation of scientific leaders is central to our mission and inseparable from our tradition of bold, curiosity-driven discovery and real-world impact.

Educating, training and inspiring the scientists of tomorrow is in Scripps Research’s DNA.

The Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences empowers its graduate students to make high-impact discoveries at the interface of chemistry and biology. Established in 1989, the doctoral program at Scripps Research ranked 1st in Biological Sciences (tied with MIT) and 7th in Chemistry (tied with Northwestern University) by U.S. News & World Report in 2026.

Undergraduate internship programs give college students the hands-on laboratory experience and mentorship needed to succeed in graduate school and beyond. Young scientists with a doctoral degree who seek further training as an independent researcher can find extensive opportunities for professional development as a postdoctoral associate in one of our 150+ laboratories.
