Senior Director, Digital Clinical Trials, Scripps Research

Edward Ramos is senior director of Digital Clinical Trials for the Scripps Research Digital Trials Center (DTC). The DTC seeks to decentralize research through the use of digital health technologies, employing novel strategies for remote, “site-less” participation, and applying state-of-the-art methodologies for data analysis. Ramos oversees the DTC’s research portfolio, which includes DETECT (COVID-19), PROGRESS (glycemic response), PowerMom (pregnancy and postpartum health) and a growing list of other projects and platforms aimed at transforming the future of clinical trials.

Ramos' expertise spans population genomics, bioinformatics, mobile health and digital clinical trials. He previously served in various capacities at the National Institutes of Health, work that included intramural research as well as oversight and management of portfolios that focused on innovative and groundbreaking initiatives aimed at improving public health, such as the All of Us Research Program.

Ramos began his federal service as a legislative fellow and legislative assistant, advising then-U.S. Senator Barack Obama on health and science policy. He received his PhD in molecular biotechnology from the University of Washington and carried out his thesis work at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
