Scripps Research ranks third in 2026 Cure Innovation Index

LA JOLLA, CA—Scripps Research ranked third in the inaugural 2026 Cure Innovation Index recognizing the top-performing institutes and centers across the United States. The Index, release by the healthcare innovation ecosystem Cure, measures how effectively U.S. biomedical institutions translate scientific discovery into real-world healthcare solutions and treatments. Scripps Research was also named #1 in the West.

The Index ranks the top 303 academic institutions, selected from more than 6,000 nationwide, and represents all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The 243 universities are ranked separately from 60 institutes and centers to reflect differences in their structures and missions.

According to the Index, Scripps Research ranks fourth in Research Capabilities and second in Market Translation, reflecting a strong balance between scientific discovery and translational work. Contributing factors to the ranking include the institute’s drug discovery and development arm, Calibr-Skaggs, as well as faculty-led clinical trials and a Clinical and Translational Science Award. As noted on the Index website, “across all three domains, Scripps [Research] presents the profile of an institute where bench science and applied work advance in close proximity.”

Additional institutions named in 2026 are Mass General Brigham, Mayo Clinic, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
