Chemist Ryan Shenvi wins Tetrahedron Young Investigator Award

Scientific publisher Elsevier has awarded the 2019 Tetrahedron Young Investigator Award to Ryan Shenvi, PhD, an associate professor at Scripps Research. Shenvi was recognized for his work in organic synthesis, which is focused on synthesizing molecules important for brain cell communication and the treatment of diseases like malaria.
“I’m surprised and honored to be listed among the distinguished awardees,” Shenvi recently told Elsevier. “Group members past and present, collaborators and colleagues deserve recognition for their many contributions to my lab’s work.
“The whole field of complex molecule synthesis merits reward for the expansion of natural product-like molecular diversity within synthetic collections and its impact on drug discovery,” adds Shenvi.
The award is given yearly by the Elsevier Executive Board of Editors and the Publisher of Tetrahedron Publications to researchers under 40 who have exhibited “exceptional creativity and dedication” in the fields of organic synthesis and of bioorganic and medicinal chemistry respectively. Previous winners include Scripps Research faculty members Benjamin Cravatt, PhD, Carlos Barbas, PhD, and Matthew Disney, PhD.
