Arnab Chatterjee has spent more than two decades developing small molecule therapies and translating them from early discovery to clinical trials across multiple disease areas. He received his PhD in the Caltech lab of Robert Grubbs, then joined the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) as a principal investigator in the chemistry department. His work there focused on hit-to-lead and lead optimization for several medicinal chemistry projects, and the teams he worked with produced eight preclinical candidates optimized for both inhaled and oral formulations, with three novel first-in-class compounds for malaria infection having entered clinical trials. In May 2012, Chatterjee became a founding member of Calibr, now known as the Calibr-Skaggs Institute for Innovative Medicines, the drug discovery division of Scripps Research. His work currently encompasses lead optimization programs spanning regenerative medicine, respiratory, infectious and childhood diseases.
