Scripps Research Translational Institute
By recognizing that every patient is unique, individualized healthcare tailors medical care to the patient, taking into account not only a person’s genes, but also their environment, behavior and lifestyle. Bringing together basic scientists and clinical investigators, the Translational Institute fosters highly collaborative multidisciplinary research with the greatest potential to transform the practice of healthcare and improve human health.
Scripps Research Translational Institute
The Scripps Research Translational Institute, formerly named Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI), was founded in 2007 with one essential aim—to individualize healthcare by leveraging the remarkable progress being made in human genomics and combining it with the power of wireless digital technologies.
About
Scientists at the Scripps Research Translational Institute aim to make individualized medicine a reality for everyone. We use the tools of genomics and digital medicine combined with cutting-edge informatics techniques to better understand each individual and ultimately render more effective healthcare. In 2017, after a decade of scientific collaboration, the Translational Institute joined Scripps Research, one of the world’s largest independent, not-for-profit research organizations.
Translational research
The Scripps Research Translational Institute focuses on individualized medicine. By using the tools of genomics and digital medicine combined with cutting-edge informatics techniques, we strive to better understand each person and ultimately render more effective healthcare. Bringing together basic scientists and clinical investigators, the institute fosters highly collaborative multidisciplinary research with the greatest potential to transform the practice of healthcare and improve human health.
Community engagement
The Scripps Hub Academic Research Core (SHARC) is supported by the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health. The CTSA seeks to speed up the development of new resources and treatments to help improve the health of individuals and the general public, while the SHARC team is available to provide knowledge, skills, and resources in community and collaboration, statistics, and how to navigate a research grant. The SHARC team is a collaboration between the Scripps Research Translational Institute and Scripps Health.
Education and training
A core component of the Scripps Research Translational Institute’s mission is the education and training of clinical-translational researchers. With a focus on genomics, digital medicine and informatics, we apply a transdisciplinary and experiential approach to mentored career development for early-career clinician scientists, translational research training for doctoral students, internship programs for undergraduate and high school students, and continuing medical education modules for physicians.
