Image Created by Page Lab Selected ‘Biomedical Picture of the Day’

A scientific image created by The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) Page lab has been featured by Biomedical Picture of the Day, a nonprofit website showcasing contemporary biomedical research. The image, created by Scripps Florida Research Associate Youjun Chen and Assistant Professor Damon Page, illustrates research on the autism risk gene PTEN published recently in the Journal of Neuroscience.

The Biomedical Picture of the Day website, which is managed by Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Sciences Centre, Imperial College Faculty of Medicine, United Kingdom, features images from research around the world. A brief description accompanies each image to connect the lay audience with the science behind medical practice.

This image from the Page lab, recently featured on Biomedical Picture of the Day, illustrates findings on the autism risk gene PTEN. Scripps Florida’s Research Associate Youjun Chen and Assistant Professor Damon Page used a red fluorescent reporter to visualize the structure of the cerebral cortex, a brain area implicated in autism.
