Symposium Celebrates Michael Oldstone’s Legacy of Mentorship

Fifty-four scientists from across the nation and abroad—of the 75 postdoctoral fellows trained under the guidance of Scripps Research Professor Michael Oldstone—will honor their mentor at the “Oldstone Scientific Symposium” on Friday, March 9, 8:30 AM to 5 PM in the Committee Lecture Hall in the Molecular Biology/Skaggs Institute building.

Seventeen former Oldstone fellows, representing research institutions in France, Japan, New York, Maryland, Georgia, Massachusetts, Oregon, San Diego, and four University of California campuses, will present data during the symposium’s four sessions of lectures: Immunological Memory and Vaccines, Immune Regulation/Dysregulation, Mechanisms of Viral Pathogenesis, and “Something Completely Different.” The day-long symposium is open to the public.

The event will close with a reception in the Faculty Club to acknowledge Oldstone’s many years of successful mentorship at Scripps Research, for which he received the American Association of Immunologists 2011 Excellence in Mentoring Award. Oldstone has been a Scripps Research faculty member for 45 years.
