Snapshot: Staff Counselor Diana Bull

Position: Staff Counselor, Counseling and Psychological Services, The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) California campus.

Responsibilities: Bull provides free, confidential counseling to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff and their families. Her clinical experiences and interests include working with anxiety or stress-related conflict, depression, relationship issues, life transitions and grief and loss.

Background: Born and raised in Arcadia, California, a suburban city outside of Los Angeles, Bull holds a BS degree in psychology from San Diego State University and a PhD in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. Previously, Bull was a staff therapist at San Diego State University, specializing in alcohol and other addictions. She also served as curriculum and training coordinator at the University of San Diego, working with faculty, staff and students on suicide prevention.

Arrived at Scripps Research: June 2014

Thoughts on TSRI: “I have only been here for five months, but professionally, I have grown the most in this short period because the individuals I work with are diverse, intelligent, thoughtful and hardworking, which allows me to push myself and learn every day. I feel honored and blessed that each day my clients allow me to enter their world and experience their joys, difficult times and struggles.”

Extracurricular Activities: In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, spending time with loved ones and traveling—a favorite trip was to Thailand, where she “met great people, saw amazing temples and ate fantastic food!”
