The Ghadiri Lab has taken an engineering approach to tackling a variety of interdisciplinary challenges through developing novel techniques with chemical, molecular, cellular, and computational methods. These have included contributions to systems chemistry, origins of life chemistry, de novo antibiotic design, next-generation nanopore sequencing, and logic-gated enzyme design. Current undertakings in the Ghadiri Laboratory are largely focused towards harnessing this interdisciplinary experience and approach towards directed remodeling of the gut microbiome to affect chronic disease progression. This includes library synthesis or curation, optimization of in vitro screening protocols, in vivo animal studies, physiological evaluation, and computational bioinformatics.

We are currently welcoming applicants that are highly motivated and interested in such an interdisciplinary and potentially impactful endeavor. Strong background in chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or bioinformatics is required. Previous experience in microbiome research is preferable. Applicants should send the following to M. Reza Ghadiri: (1) A cover letter addressing your qualifications; (2) brief summary of your current and previous research; and (3) contact information of three professional references with firsthand knowledge of your professional abilities.
