Snapshot: Program Coordinator Diana “Jean” Branan

Position: Program coordinator in the Career & Postdoctoral Services Office

Responsibilities: Branan provides career training programs and professional development opportunities to postdoctoral fellows and graduate students on the Scripps California campus. She is working to showcase alumni and current students and their research through expanded social media and video activities. Additionally, Branan will help build relationships with industry professionals, scientists and recruiters.

Arrived at Scripps Research: February 2014

Background: Branan holds a BA in anthropology and a master’s degree in education, specializing in postsecondary educational leadership, from San Diego State University (SDSU). A native San Diegan, she most recently was the director of career services at the Art Institute in San Diego. She also held positions in technical training at SDSU and human resources at Sony Electronics.

Thoughts on Scripps Research: “I enjoy working in an environment that is so culturally diverse, with everyone working towards common goals.”

Professional and Volunteer Groups: Branan is a member of the Graduate Career Consortium Planning Committee, National Postdoctoral Association and the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Other Extracurricular Activities: Branan’s family includes husband, Sean; 10-year old daughter, Olivia; and two pet cats, Burton and Bentley. In addition to music—she plays the piano and cello—Branan’s enjoys videography, particularly shooting cinematic-style wedding videos.
