There are three web resources which are aimed at providing patient information; click on the underlined title to go to the site.
- The Web Page of the ITP Society associated with the Children's Blood Foundation. This web page presents considerable patient-related information, particularly on childhood ITP.
- The Web Page of the ITP Support Association of the United Kingdom. They publish a monthly newsletter, as well as providing information on-line about both adult and childhood ITP. They sponsor a yearly conference on ITP which features speakers who are experts in the ITP field.
- The Platelet Disorder Support Association. This web page contains: comprehensive information about ITP and its treatment; multiple links to ITP-related material; and, more importantly, allows ITP patients to 'talk' with each other. In addition, they sponsor a yearly conference on ITP which features speakers who are experts in the ITP field.
Please note! This web page also contains considerable information about 'alternative therapy' for ITP. To my knowledge, there is not published evidence showing that any form of 'alternative therapy' is useful in the management of ITP. So keep this in mind when you visit this site.
General Medical References.
The references here are all review articles since these summarize the topic. Individual papers on areas of interest can be obtained from references listed in these review articles. The listed articles are of two types: those which describe the disorder generally or those which focus on treatment. They are listed chronologically. Access to these articles will require that you visit a medical library. Medical libraries may be found associated with your local hospital or with a medical school.
