In Brief

Brunel Wins amfAR Fellowship
Research Associate Florence Brunel of the Dawson lab has won a fellowship from the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), an organization dedicated to the support of AIDS research, AIDS prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy.

Brunel will work toward an AIDS vaccine by building on research findings that describe the interaction between a section of the HIV protein gp41 and a number of antibodies. She will produce short protein segments and optimize their structure and function to minimize the degree to which they induce irrelevant antibodies, while maximizing the degree to which they induce antibodies that can neutralize most strains of HIV.
