Even though San Diego and Jupiter are beautiful and generally safe cities, accidents and emergencies can happen, and it’s best to be prepared by entering the phone numbers below in your cell phone and/or carrying the following information in your wallet or purse. That way, you will have the correct phone numbers at your fingertips, whether you have a problem at the airport, an accident in your lab or an emergency need to travel. If you would like a card to carry in your purse or wallet with emergency contact information for Scripps Research, please feel free to email us.
- If you have an emergency during office hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST), call the ISO at (858) 784-8120.
- If you have an emergency on evenings, holidays or weekends, call Campus Security at (858) 784-2000. Identify yourself as an international student or scholar and Campus Security will get you in touch with an international student and scholar advisor.
- If you experience a crime or accident on campus, call Campus Security from a campus phone by dialing 77, or call Campus Security from a cell phone by dialing (858) 784-2000.
- If you experience a mental health emergency, please call 988.
- As always, if you experience a crime or accident off campus, call 911.
Earthquake Preparedness
Wildfires are not uncommon in California, especially when we go through seasons of drought. It is good to be prepared, particularly if you live near a wooded area or a mountainside with wild brush and plants. However, fires can start anywhere and spread quickly because of our dry climate.
The following website has a great deal of information to help keep you and your family safe, including a “pre-evacuation checklist” and a list of items for your “emergency supply kit.” Please review this information if you are coming to California.
In addition, the California Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has information on their website about air quality conditions, and how smoke from fires can affect your health.- If you have an emergency between 8am EST – 5pm EST, please call the International Services Office in Florida at (561) 228-2362.
