Immunology Assistant Professor Erica Ollmann Saphire
(pictured top left with her husband, TSRI Research Associate Andrew
Saphire) originally joined TSRI in 1994 as a graduate student and received
a faculty appointment in May 2003.
"I'm thrilled to be in the Department of Immunology,"
says Ollmann Saphire. "I want to collaborate with department faculty
on downstream functional analysis and design of vaccines and inhibitors.
I looked at positions at other institutions, but TSRI offered the best
fit for the kind of science I want to do."
For the lab-warming party, Ollmann Saphire prepared
a cake featuring an image of an Ebola virus in chocolate. One of her
research goals is to solve protein crystal structures that determine
          the Ebola virus's extreme pathogenicity.
