Breath Revealed

Along the base reads the inscription, "THEN FOLLOWETH THIS THAT NATURE DOES DISSOLVE EACH THING INTO ITS OWN ELEMENTS."

In addition to the natural environment in which we live, one of the inspirations for the design of the sculpture, says Rainey, was the Greek proportion system popularized by Pythagoras and Plato. According to this system, the ideal body is sectioned vertically into seven and a half equal lengths (the ankles and feet making half a length) and proportioned according to the golden ratio (1:1.618).
