A
combination of structural approaches, including x-ray crystallography, in the laboratory
of K.W. Nettles, Ph.D., and amide hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry,
in the laboratory of P.R. Griffin, Ph.D., were used to dissect how diverse ligands
control the allosteric function of the nuclear receptor ligand-binding domain. The
ligand-binding domain of the estrogen receptor is shown bound to an estrogen derivative,
trifluoromethylphenylvinyl-estradiol.
