A Taste of Things to Come Spring tutorials in California expose high school interns to contemporary biomedical research issues covering such topics as DNA and forensics, biomolecular visualization, combinatorial chemistry, and drug discovery. Each student also is assigned a graduate student mentor to provide guidance and serve as a resource in the college application and selection process—especially vauable for first-generation college-bound students. Here, (left to right) California interns Toung Pham of Mira Mesa H.S., Ariana Hazery of Santa Fe Christian H.S., and Joe Olivas-Blanco of Castle Park H.S., listen to mentor Greg Tabor, graduate student in the Shenvi lab. |
