Safety Gram Live!: "Practical Considerations for the Safe Scale-Up of Chemical Reactions"

Daniel J. Pippel, senior scientist for the Scale-Up Group, Drug Discovery, Johnson & Johnson, will speak on "Practical Considerations for the Safe Scale-Up of Chemical Reactions" on Thursday, June 4, at noon. The event will be held in the Keck Auditorium, Beckman Building, La Jolla campus. Pizza and refreshments will be provided. Career Seminar: "Manuscript Writing, Submission, and Publication"

Ian Wilson, who is Hansen Professor of Structural Biology at Scripps Research, will speak on "Manuscript Writing, Submission, and Publication: An Editor's Perspective" on Wednesday, June 10, from 11 AM to noon. Participants in the seminar will learn what journal editors look for and see examples of good (and not so good) writing. They will also hear specific tips for drafting clear and concise titles, abstracts, background sections, tables, and cover letters. The event, which is organized by the Career and Postdoctoral Services Department, will be held in the Keck Amphitheater Beckman Building, La Jolla campus, and will be offered via videoconference on the Scripps Florida campus, room B158, at 2 PM Eastern time. No RSVP required.


Lunch & Learn: "Learn to Sleep Well!"

Larry Kline, medical director of the Scripps Clinic Sleep Center, senior consultant of the Division of Chest and Critical Care at Scripps Clinic, and associate adjunct professor in the Scripps Research Department of Molecular and Experimental Medicine, will give a talk titled "Learn to Sleep Well," on Wednesday, June 17, from noon to 1 PM. Kline will discuss normal and disturbed sleep and how it affects your health, with an emphasis on how to recognize a sleep problem and what you can do about it. The event, which is part of the ongoing Lunch & Learn seminar series, will be held in the Keck Amphitheater, Beckman Building, La Jolla campus.


Upcoming Onsite Clinics

On Monday, June 1, Wednesday, June 3, and Friday, June 5, personnel from Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group will be on site at the La Jolla campus to conduct TB screenings, hepatitis B immunizations, serum draws, and tetanus immunizations.

The clinics will be conducted in the 3366 Building, in Room 325, on the third floor, from 11 AM to 2 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

No appointments are necessary. TB screening requires a 48 to 72 hour follow-up. Individuals receiving the TB screen on Monday will need to return on Wednesday, and individuals screened on Wednesday, will need to return on Friday. Initiation of the TB screening process will not be available on Friday, but hepatitis B immunization, serum draws, and tetanus immunizations will be.
