Kathleen ("Kathy") Ryan

Position: Executive assistant, Scripps Florida campus

Responsibilities:  Assists Harry Orf, vice president of scientific operations at Scripps Florida, as a liaison with the Scripps Research La Jolla campus, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida Palm Beach County governmental and community organizations. Arranges meetings, visits, and tours for both internal staff and outside visitors; acts as primary contact for all visitors to the Jupiter campus.

Started at Scripps Research:  September 6, 2005

Background:  Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida. Worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York, as division secretary in the Nuclear Risk Assessment Division; also worked in the corporate finance department of B/E Aerospace in Wellington, Florida, on Securities and Exchange Commission documentation, press releases, and annual reports.

What Attracted Her to Scripps Florida:  "I wanted to play an integral part in helping build a world-class scientific research community."

Goals:  "The goal of anyone who works here who is not a scientist is to make certain that, as the Scripps Florida campus grows and develops, we continue to provide the scientific research community with the highest level of support possible. The administrative support we offer means that faculty members can spend their time working on their research projects, which is the whole purpose of why we're all here in the first place."

Thoughts on Scripps Florida:  "We started out as pioneers in temporary buildings and trailers. That experience has given us a strong family bond, where we all have a deep-seated interest in the Scripps Florida success story." 

Extracurriculars:   Dancing, walking, having fun with Jake, her big yellow Labrador, and spending time with family and friends.
