Judith Dent
Title: Senior Research Assistant.
Lab: Laboratory of Associate Professor Jerry Ware, Department
of Molecular and Experimental Medicine (MEM).
Duties: Dent is currently working on the role of platelet Septin
5 in secretion and signaling.
Started at TSRI: 1982. "I've been with MEM for over 20 years.
It's been fun and challenging."
Background: Native of Yorkshire, England. Bachelor's degree from
the University of London, England. Jobs at the University of Calgary,
Canada; University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand; Washington
University School of Medicine in St. Louis; and The Salk Institute in
San Diego. "I wanted to travel. My jobs enabled me to live in a lot of
different places."
Outside of Work: Dent, her husband (a patent attorney), and daughter
moved to Ramona in 1991. "We're busy, but we love it. We have five horses,
two dogs, and a cat. I garden and love to be outside. I count my blessings
every day when I drive through the countryside."
Other Extracurriculars: Co-leading her daughter's senior Girl
Scout troop. For the last two and a half years, the five-member troop
has been planning a trip through England and has been conducting a variety
of fundraisers to pay for the expedition. The next will be hosting a booth
at the TSRI Spring Craft Fair on April 17. "The girls are baking all-natural
dog treats and wrapping them in Easter fabric that can be used as a dog
bandana." Proceeds will go towards purchasing rail passes and paying for
accommodations during the two-week trip this June.
