| In Brief
TSRI Postdoc Wins Incyte Discovery GrantDavid S. Shin, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of John Tainer,
has won the 2001 Incyte Discovery Grant. Shin's research focuses on determining
the X-ray crystal structure of proteins in order to study macromolecular
interactions and catalytic sites of proteins in atomic detail, with the
ultimate goal of using that information to engineer drugs to treat disease.
In his application, Shin proposed sequencing a cDNA library for the polychaete
worm, Alvinella pompejana. A. pompejana is the most hyperthermophilic
metazoan known, and Shin hopes it will provide a new source of thermostable
        proteins for crystallization.
