
Khanh Nguyen
Title: Employment representative
Duties: Recruiting for The Scripps Research Institute's (TSRI)
shared and support services, filling positions such as administrative
assistant, safety technician, and housekeeper. Nguyen's job involves finding
cost-effective ways to advertise, screening resumes, interviewing candidates,
updating hiring managers on the search, and matching candidates to positions.
Favorite Part of Job: "I love interacting with different types
of people. I enjoy helping candidates find that ideal position and making
managers happy by finding a good person to work for them."
Started at TSRI: May 2000
Promoted to Current Position: July 2001
Background: B.S. with a major in management science and a minor
in biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Her
college experience included an internship in TSRI's Human Resources Department,
where she spent one spring break talking with managers and shadowing individuals
in various positions. After graduating, she worked in human resources
for a local software company.
Biggest Accomplishment. "Being where I am today. My family came
to this country from Vietnam without anything. I started working at 15
to help support the family. I put myself through college working 25 to
30 hours a week. Now I have an awesome position!"
Extracurricular: Going to the beach and relaxing. Reading, most
recently the Harry Potter series. "But, I haven't had a lot of free time
lately with the new job..."
