Cluster 6

Genes with a constant increase in expression (steep slope)

Clusters 2, 3, and 6 represent genes expressed during post-natal mouse retina development, whose expression is low at birth and then generally increases throughout post-natal development. Visual processes generally begin around P8 in the mouse and are fully functional around P14 when mouse eyes open and the vision process officially begins. Although many developmental events are occurring simultaneously and caution should be taken when predicting gene functions from expression data alone, these genes have a higher likelihood of being involved in visual function. This includes genes directly involved in the transfer of light-induced visual signals, and genes whose expression is required to prepare and maintain the photoreceptors and other neural layers during the visual process. Cluster 6 genes generally have drastic increases in expression beginning between around 1 week after birth. This cluster includes genes known to be involved in the direct transfer of light-activated signals.
