Center for Mass Spectrometry (La Jolla)
The expansion of TSRI's Center for Mass Spectrometry, located in LaJolla, California, has kept pace with advances in the field itself. As new techniques have been developed, the institute has found itself on the cutting edge with instruments capable of performing measurements with high sensitivity and accuracy. With these capabilities, the lab can now routinely analyze proteins, peptides, drugs, oligonucleotides, carbohydrates, and a variety of small biomolecules.
The Center offers three general areas of service: routine mass analysis, protein analysis (also called "Proteomics") and an open access mass spectrometry lab. Those working in routine service perform molecular weight determinations using electrospray ionization, MALDI-TOF, MALDI-FTMS, GC/MS and LC/MS. Our proteomics service is capable of performing protein mass determination, protein identification and post-translational modification characterization as well as high throughput protein characterization. Finally, TSRI also houses an open access lab where TSRI's researchers, post doctoral fellows and graduate students can be trained to run their own mass spectrometry experiments.
