I am a post-doctoral research fellow in Günter Blobel's group (Laboratory of Cell Biology) at Rockefeller University in New York City. I hold a 2007 Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation fellowship entitled Assembly and Structure of the Nuclear Pore Complex Scaffold. Before coming to New York City, I obtained my PhD degree in Biophysics from The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla near San Diego under the supervision of Ian Wilson. The research during my PhD focused on understanding the structural basis of immune recognition using x-ray crystallography. In particular, I was interested in how antibodies designed as catalysts or biosensors perform their work in atomic detail and how they can be improved. I did my undergraduate and partly graduate studies at FU Berlin. I have posted some biographical and genealogical material and photos of my home town Schwäbisch Gmünd.
