Graduate Research Assistant Positions

Prof. Shen holds appointments in the Departments of Chemistry and Molecular Therapeutics and leads the Natural Products Library Initiative at TSRI.  Researches in the Shen Lab center on natural product isolation, structural elucidation, biosynthesis, engineering, and drug discovery.  Members of the Shen Lab gain broad training spanning natural products chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology, a qualification that is becoming essential for the modern bioorganic chemists/chemical biologists who seek career opportunity in both academia and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.  Perspective graduate students with undergraduate degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology are all encouraged to apply to the Kellogg School of Science and Technology Graduate Program (http://education.scripps.edu/kellogg_school/index.html) at TSRI (http://intranet.scripps.edu/).  Through curricular and laboratory research experiences, TSRI provides the multidisciplinary, creative and dynamic environment necessary to enable our graduate students to thrive in the rapidly evolving endeavor that is top-level scientific research.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITIONS:

Researches in the Shen Lab are currently supported by NIH grants, institutional support, and industrial sponsorships.  The Shen laboratories welcome inquiry for postdoctoral research associate positions.  Candidates with prior experience in natural product isolation, structural elucidation, and biosynthesis, biochemistry and mechanistic enzymology, and microbiology, molecular biology, and genetics (in particular with emphasis on secondary metabolism in Streptomyces) are all encouraged to apply.  These positions are typically for 2 years and renewable up to 5 years upon mutual agreement.  Committed to excellence in the training and development of tomorrow’s scientific leaders, TSRI offers outstanding postdoctoral appointments for talented individuals to expand scientific frontiers and improve human health (http://education.scripps.edu/postdoctoral_training.php).
