Beginner Workshops

Scripps Surfing tries to hold a free beginner workshop every month. Dates vary so if you're interested in attending a workshop, or you want more information, contact Jason Harless (jharless@scripps.edu).

Next Workshop: To Be Determined.

The purpose of these workshops is to teach beginning surfers the basics of surfing. We start with instruction on land because it's much easier to learn how to stand up on a board when the world isn't moving under you! We also teach basic water safety (don't put the board between your face and the wave or you'll regret it!), respect in the line up (who's wave is it?), how to paddle-out (duck dives and rolls), how to paddle for a wave, and finally how to stand up. These lessons are given by non-professionals in a comfortable, peer-peer environment. Check it out!
