English as a Second Language (ESL)

TSRI offers several new self-study English as a Second Language tools available to all TSRI community members in the Kresge Library. Please contact the Kresge Library for availability.

  • "ESL Instant Immersion. English" - A CD-ROM project
  • "Essential Grammar Use: A Self-study Reference and Practice Book for Elementary Strudents of English, with Answers" - A self-study guidebook by Raymond Murphy
  • "Connect with English" - A video series from thr Annenberg Collection consisting of 50 fifteen minute lessons with coordinating video comprehension books. Lesson levels range high beginning to high intermediate.
Many community colleges and learning centers in the San Diego area offer English as a Second Language classes at a low to no cost basis. For more information, contact the individual learning institutions below:

For Chinese scholars, Unknown Space can be helpful for navigating life in the U.S. This online community hosts hundreds of online forums that range from adapting to U.S. life to computer programming to sports.
