Upcoming Programs

Career Transitions Group
Jan Hill & Ryan Wheeler co-facilitate a three-session group to help postdocs and graduate students think through the decision of whether an academic career or other career options may be best for them.  In a confidential small group environment, participants discuss how knowing their values, interests, skills, and goals can help them take their next step.

Participants must RSVP and commit to all three sessions:

Videotaped Practice Interviews
Need interviewing practice?  The Postdoctoral Services Office is offering a videotaped mock interview/feedback session in a small group setting.  Hear constructive comments about your verbal responses and body language from the facilitators and your peers.  Your answers will be videotaped and critiqued on-the-spot as you take turns fielding standard HR screening questions. Next session: June 16, 2009. 3pm-4:30pm.

How to Craft a Winning Resume
1-hour workshop led by Ryan Wheeler, M.A. Learn the difference between a CV and a resume, learn tips to highlight your accomplishments, see examples of effective resumes, and get a crash course in cover letter writing. Next workshop: July 7, 2009.

Annual Fall Research Symposium
SoF and the Postdoc Office hosted the annual fall research symposium on Thursday, October 2, 2008 in the Beckman Building. Faculty judges selected 12 oral presenters and almost 60 poster presenters in a variety of research areas with the goal of highlighting some of the most exciting research on campus. For more information, see the SoF website.

w/ Novartis, Amgen, AstraZeneca, and Agilent Technologies. Hiring personnel were on-campus to answer questions and discuss their companies’ current research directions and career opportunities. June 9, 2004.

TSRI/Industry Recruitment Day 2005
w/ Novartis, Amgen, Eli Lilly, Amylin, and Neurocrine Biosciences. Hiring personnel were on-campus to discuss company goals, products, and future directions with TRSI grad students and postdocs. Company representatives also highlighted career opportunities, placement strategies, and typical candidate qualifications. Some companies pre-selected TSRI biological sciences postdocs for informational interviewing throughout the day. September 14, 2005.
