Payroll Services


Paycheck Explained

Check Date:
For regular paid employees it is the seventh day following the Pay Period End Date.
For stipend paid individuals it is the same date as the Pay Period End Date.
When this date ocurs on a holiday or on a weekend, the Check Date will be the last business day preceding the holiday or weekend.

Your name as it appears on our records. It should be the same name as appears your Social Security card.
If not, please contact Human Resources with an update.

Soc. Sec. No.:
Your Social Security Number as it appears on our records. It should be the same number as appears on your Social Security Card.
If not, please contact Human Resources with an update.

Pay Period Begin:
For regular paid employees it is the first day of a two-week period beginning on a Saturday. There are 26 pay periods a year.
For stipend paid individuals it is the first day of a semi-monthly period beginning on either the 1st or the 16th of the month.
There are 24 pay periods a year.

Pay Period End:
For regular paid employees it is the last day of a two-week period ending on a Friday.
For stipend paid individuals it is the last day of a semi-monthly period ending on either the 15th, or the last day of the month.

Fed. W/H Status:
S = Single
S = Married, but withhold at the higher Single rate.
M = Married
E = Exempt-Federal income tax is not withheld.
Your marital status as it appears on the most recent W4 filed with the payroll office. It is used to calculate the federal income tax withheld from your paycheck. It is not necessarily your true marital status.

Allowances:
The number of Personal Allowances as it appears on the most recent W4 filed with the payroll office. It is used to calculate the federal income tax withheld from your paycheck.

Additional $:
The additional amount of federal income tax you want withheld as it appears on the most recent W4 filed with the payroll office.

State W/H Status:
S = Single
S = Married (with two or more incomes).
M = Married (one income).
H = Head of Household
E = Exempt-State income tax is not withheld.
Your marital status as it appears on the most recent DE4 filed with the payroll office. It is used to calculate the state income tax withheld from your paycheck. It is not necessarily your true marital status.

Net Pay:
The amount you receive after taxes and deductions have been made. It may be referred to as "Take Home Pay."

PPL Balance:
The number of Paid Personal Leave hours available to you as of the Pay Period End Date.

ESL Balance:
The number of Extended Sick Leave hours available to you as of the Pay Period End Date.

Fl Hol Balance:
The number of Floating Holiday leave hours available to you as of the pay Period End Date.

Hours:
The number of hours paid for this code during the pay period.

Rate:
The rate at which the hours for this code are paid during the pay period. Half time premiums appear as a calculated dollar amount.

Current Amount:
This is the dollar amount calculated by multiplying the Hours times the Rate.

YTD Amount:
This is the Year-To-Date amount paid for this code.

Total Hours:
This is the total of all hours for this pay period.

Total Current Amount:
This is the total of all payments for this pay period.

Total YTD Amount:
This is the total of all payments made for the Year-To-Date.

Employee Deductions:
Amounts authorized by the employee or by statute to be deducted from gross earnings.
