Change of Non-Immigrant Status

In some circumstances, international scholars may need to change non-immigrant status, i.e. from F-1 OPT to J-1, or from J-1 to H-1B. The host lab should complete the appropriate visa request form and consult the International Office. Change of status applications can take four months or longer and may involve international travel and re-entry for the scholar.
