Human Subjects Research

Scripps Office For The Protection Of
Research Subjects (SOPRS) and Institutional Review Boards (IRB)

SOPRS is the administrative department that supports Scripps IRBs that review all human subject research at The Scripps Research Institute. All requests for review and approval of human subject research protocols are to be submitted to SOPRS.

On July 1, 2008, the Scripps Office for the Protection of Research Subjects went "paperless". ALL new and continuing submissions must be entered through the iRIS IRB Program developed by iMedRIS.

To start using iRIS, go to: https://research.scripps.org/Login.jsp

Request a new account. Once the administrator sends you an e-mail with a log on ID and temporary password, you will be able to access the system

Your account may only be used by you and you CANNOT give your password to anyone else. When an investigator "signs off" on a submission, the electronic signature must be that of the sender.

Instruction Manuals for using iRIS:

In addition, classes explaining how research protocols are submitted through iRIS are held every Monday from 11:30 to 1:00 PM in the classroom at our new Torrey Pines Science Park location:
