Sonal Kalra
International Student
and Scholar Advisor

Sonal Kalra
is originally from India but has called San Diego home since she arrived on Christmas in 1999. Having transitioned to a new life in the United States herself, she understands the challenges faced by international students and scholars coming to the US for the first time. Sonal completed a certificate in Human Resources from the University of California, San Diego and also holds a Master’s degree in Textiles from the Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey University in India. She found her way into the field of international education when she was given the responsibility to issue visa documents for international students in 2001 at her prior employer San Diego University for Integrative Studies. She is grateful to have the opportunity to work with both international students and scholars. She wants to assist them in any way she can so that they can make the most out of their experience in the United States and become the scientists that they aspire to be. Sonal has traveled to Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Mexico and Canada. She hopes to travel to a new country every year. She enjoys meeting new people from diverse backgrounds, spending time with her family, and she loves Thai food.

Mary Schrot is the International Student and Scholar Advisor in Jupiter, Florida. A native New Yorker, Mary earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics at The State University of New York at Oneonta (SUNY Oneonta). Her experience in Rome shaped her career path and her desire to help others experience studying and living in a country other than their own. She spent a year in Phetchaburi Thailand teaching English to college students before returning to the US to pursue a Master’s degree at Lesley University, completing a Masters in Intercultural Counseling. She has been working as an International Student and Scholar Advisor for 20+ years and thoroughly enjoys working with people from all over the world. On most every weekend, you can find Mary rowing on a crew team down the intercostal. She loves to be active; hiking, biking, and enjoying outside activities in the beautiful FL sunshine. Having lived in Boston MA, Mary is a die-hard Red Sox fan!
