TSRI Laboratory Attire Policy


Situation One

Individuals passing through the laboratory and those working in "cubicles/carrels" (within the lab)

  • No Restrictions

Situation Two

Individuals not working with hazardous materials and not within six (6) feet of another individual working with hazardous materials

  • Close-toed shoes
  • Clothing1 covering the legs or full-length, buttoned lab coat extending at least ten (10) inches below the knee

Situation Three

Individuals not working with hazardous materials but within six (6) feet of an individual who is working with hazardous materials

  • Close-toed shoes
  • Clothing1 covering the legs and a buttoned, standard-length lab coat (in situations where clothing does not cover the legs, a full-length, buttoned lab coat extending at least ten (10) inches below the knee)
  • Safety glasses or goggles
  • No exposed skin below the shoulders (sleeves of the lab coat must be rolled down)

Situation Four

Individuals working with hazardous materials

  • Close-toed shoes
  • Clothing1 covering the legs and a buttoned, standard-length lab coat (in situations where clothing does not cover the legs, a full-length, buttoned lab coat extending at least ten (10) inches below the knee is acceptable)
  • Safety glasses/goggles and as appropriate a face shield
  • No exposed skin below the shoulders (sleeves of the lab coat must be rolled down)
  • Appropriate gloves

1 Stockings are NOT considered clothing.
