Safety Advisory: Disposal of Ethidium Bromide

Please be advised that the disposal of hazardous material into the sanitary sewer is prohibited. All hazardous waste must be managed in strict accordance with city, county, state, and federal regulations as well as institutional policy. Recently we have received several inquires as to the concentration of ethidium bromide considered to be hazardous.

Ethidium Bromide - For the purpose of disposal to the sanitary sewer system, a concentration of less than or equal to 0.5mg/liter (0.5ppm) is acceptable.

Diluting ethidium bromide wastes for the sole purpose of meeting the above criteria is prohibited. If you should have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact the office at 4-8240.
