Pathogenesis Affinity Group

The Pathogenesis Affinity Group meets weekly to provide a forum for intellectual enrichment, scientific discussion, and exchange of ideas among scientists studying diverse aspects of animal and plant virology and viral pathogenesis. Scripps Research scientists and outside guest speakers are invited to present their experimental data. The areas of interest are (1) study of virus-host cell interactions; (2) defining the molecular basis of viral persistence; (3) analysis of virus-immune cell interactions with resultant immunosuppression or autoimmunity; (4) analysis of mechanism(s) whereby viruses cause acute, chronic-degenerative and demyelinating diseases; (5) mapping of neural tracts and studying virus-CNS cell interactions; (6) development of antiviral therapies and vaccines; and (7) targeting drugs into the central nervous system by use of viruses as carriers.
