Lo Grasso, Philip
studies structure function relationships of enzymes for drug discovery and development.

Loring, Jeanne

Loskutoff, David
is seeking to define the cellular events and interactions (i.e., with vitronectin) that regulate type 1 plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1), key players in the pathogenesis of human vascular disease; he studies the synthesis, secretion, activity, and structure of PAI-1 and vitronectin using cultured cells, murine models of human disease, and human vascular tissue.

Lotz, Martin
examines the aging-associated molecular and cellular changes in bones and joints that result in the clinical signs and pathological symptoms of osteoarthritis, looking for new molecular targets for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of this condition; candidates for new osteoarthritis therapies are under evaluation in animals and in clinical trials.

Lu, Xiaoying

Luo, Junli
focuses on mechanistic and translational research in molecular signaling that connects epigenetic factors with genetic events during tumor genesis, progression and metastasis

MacRae, Ian
combines structural biology, biochemistry and cell biology to understand mechanisms of gene regulation by RNA interference.

Maderazo, Julie
Please see Jameson, Julie

Makarenkova, Elena

Mandyam, Chitra
studies the neurogenic mechanisms altered by complex behavior patterns, including addiction, stress, depression and psychoses with emphasis on understanding the dynamics and mature cell fate of medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampal progenitors that partly maintain the adult medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampal plasticity.

Mason, Barbara
explores the physiological changes in the brain that drive excessive drinking and create vulnerability to relapse, and she investigates the viability of utilizing new compounds to modulate the neurological effects of alcohol, reduce excessive intake, and prevent relapse.

Mauro, Vincent
studies the regulation of gene expression at the level of protein synthesis, focusing on elements that affect translation initiation, including elements contained within mRNAs, such as internal ribosomal entry sites (IRESes), and elements contained within ribosomes, such as ribosomal RNA.

Maximov, Anton
combines genetic, biochemical, optical, and electrophysiological methods
to study synapse development and function in the central nervous system.

Mayford, Mark
uses genetic manipulation to investigate the molecular events involved in learning and memory.

McDonald, Patricia
Focuses on the development of biochemical and cell-based functional assays to identify and develop small molecule modulators of GPCRs for the treatment of metabolic and CNS disorders.

Mc Gowan, Clare
examines the molecular mechanisms and players that regulate the human cell cycle, focusing on DNA damage checkpoints and DNA repair enzymes like Mus81, which resolves strands of duplex DNA that become crossed during replication.

McHeyzer-Williams, Michael G.
studies the cellular and molecular regulation of antigen-specific immune memory in vivo with emphasis on the innate/adaptive interface and helper T cell regulated B cell responses to optimize vaccines.

explores the intracellular signaling events and pathways that lead to the tolerance or rejection of transplanted organs by T cells.

Mc Millan, Robert

Micalizio, Glenn
focuses research on the development of new chemical methods and strategies for the total synthesis of complex biologically interesting natural products, and for the discovery of small molecules with interesting biological properties.

Miles, Lindsey
is investigating, at the levels of cellular receptors and gene expression, the regulation of the activity of plasmin, a key protease that regulates pathophysiological processes involving extracellular matrix degradation, tissue remodeling, and cell migration.

Millar, David
uses single-molecule fluorescence and time-resolved laser spectroscopy to study the dynamics of enzyme-DNA interactions and the folding of catalytic RNA molecules.
