Wireless Network

TSRI maintains a wireless network in public areas and conference rooms for the use of faculty, staff, and students of the institute. On the Florida campus, coverage extends into office and lab areas. Use of the wireless network is intended for TSRI related business and must, at all times, be in accordance with TSRI’s Administrative Guidelines, Section 9.1 Electronic Communications and Computer Systems . Access to the network may be restricted or denied for violations of TSRI policy, state or federal laws, or standards of conduct and propriety.

The TSRI wireless network uses WPA2 enterprise security. To access the TSRI wireless network you will need a valid TSRI username and password. Detailed instructions for connecting to the wireless network are given below. If you normally use another means to connect to the TSRI network, you should save those settings before making the changes suggested below to connect to the wireless network.

Wireless access for TSRI guests is also available. Guest access will allow non-TSRI users access only to websites external to TSRI (http:// and https://). Guests will be required to enter an email address to login to the TSRI Guest wireless network.

If your lab or office is interested in joining the TSRI wireless network, please contact IT Services. IT Services will advise both labs and offices that currently do or do not own and operate wireless access points. If your lab or office currently owns and operates a wireless access point, IT Services will inform you if it is compatible with the TSRI wireless network. Compatible devices can be reconfigured by IT Services to join the TSRI wireless network. For labs that do not currently own and operate a wireless access point, IT Services will recommend which hardware to purchase and assist in the install/setup process. IT Services can also provide labs and offices with quotes for this new hardware. Lab /Office owned wireless access points that join the TSRI wireless network will be managed by IT Services.

Known Issues:

We have observed two issues in testing:
  • USERNAME/PASSWORD not accepted:

In some cases the authentication system will not accept a valid TSRI username and password combination. This is due to the password not being in the database that the wireless authentication server uses to validate a user. To resolve this you must use the IT services password change tool to propogate your password to the new database.

  • Not able to access the network:

In some cases you be authenticated, but not able to use the wireless network. This is due to an invalid setting in your network controll panel. The TSRI wireless network uses dynamic IP addresses that vary depending on your location, you are probably using fixed IP addresses that allows you on the TSRI network at you rdefault location. To resolve this go into the network control panel for your computer and change the settings to use DHCP. If you normally use another means to connect to the TSRI network, you should save those settings before making this change.
