SSH Information

Security is something we take very seriously in IT Services. Minimizing lost time for scientific users and support staff is our intent. The risk of vandalism and disruption is definitely real!

Secure Shell (SSH) is the only method currently available for those that want an interactive UNIX shell from remote facilities or from home. Telnet is not permitted.

Clear text email access via POP is not available from off-campus. Implementation of a client that utilizes SSH, or that can be configured to port forward or use APOP, is required. For more information, click on: http://www.scripps.edu/rc/security/.

Information is provided below for various SSH client programs.

Windows

  • SSH Secure Shell, a free program that supports SSH2 may be downloaded from TSRI. This is licensed for TSRI employee use only! Download SSH Secure Shell 3.2.9.

For help with setting up port forwarding in SSH Secure Shell click here.

Macintosh:

  • MacOS X includes an ssh client as part of its base OS.

UNIX:

  • Most UNIX hosts on the TSRI campus come with an SSH program as part of the base OS.
