File Exchange via FTP
TSRI maintains an ftp server to facilitate sharing of computer data and files with collaborators; and to disseminate data and applications generated by TSRI employees.
The ftp site is divided into two sections for security reasons: It has a folder for each PI or department to disseminate data, and an incoming folder for each PI or department to receive data from collaborators outside. These folders are created on request. Contact Mark Christe at x4-9441 or helpdesk at x4-9369.
Uploading Instructions
Uploading your data from within TSRI
From any computer at TSRI you can use an ftp client program. Connect to ftp.scripps.edu and use your email account credentials (name and password) to access the site and transfer files to it. Your folder will be in /tsri/ftp. You can also create subfolders to organize data.
NEVER try and connect as yourself from outside of TSRI via raw ftp.
From a Unix-based computer you can in most cases copy files directly to /tsri/ftp/PI, where PI is a PI's email account name.
Uploading your data from outside TSRI
If you have a VPN account you can perform an upload as described above once VPN is running.
You can also use sftp (secure ftp) from anywhere in the world. Folder location is again pub/
Uploading for collaborators outside TSRI
Have your collaborator connect to ftp.scripps.edu. Login as anonymous, full email address as password. Navigate to pub/incoming/. Your collaborator cannot see what is in there and cannot download data from the incoming section. This discourages sharing of illicit files by random people. However, your collaborator can upload any data they wish. They will not see the uploaded files. Just trust the messages and transfer log.
Downloading Instructions
Dowloading data from ftp site
