Configuring POP E-Mail in Eudora (Mac)

1) Launch Eudora and go to "Settings"

2) Go to the "Getting Started" icon and fill in the appropriate fields.
- Enter your username which is your email address without the @scripps.edu.
- Enter your Mail Server. If your account is on Hermes, enter mail.scripps.edu.
- Enter your Real Name as you want it to appear to people receiving your email.
- Enter the SMTP Server. For the smtp server you should enter either smtp or smtp-server. Other servers may work, but we are encouraging the use of smtp or smtp-server to take some of the load off of hermes or mail.scripps.edu.
- Enter your Return Address.

3) If you are checking email within TSRI the Authentication may be set to Passwords, but if you are outside of TSRI you should use APOP.
- To use APOP you should set up a an APOP account.
- See http://www.scripps.edu/rc/security/apop_config.html  for instructions.
- If you have the mail check automatically, set it to check every 11 minutes or more.
- Setting it to check more frequently will reduce performance for other email users.
- Leaving it on the server is useful for getting the same mail from more than one computer. If you leave mail on the server, do not leave it for many days or it will reduce email performance for you and others.

4) Enter scripps.edu as the Default Domain.
- Allowing Authorization is optional.
- Keep copies is useful if you ever need to refer back to what you have sent out.

5) Set the Encoding method to AppleDouble.
- Be sure the Attachments folder is set to where you want your attachments.

6) If you need to use more than one email account click on "New" to create a new account.
- A Road Runner account is given as an example. Otherwise you should be all set up now.
- Just click OK and start using Eudora.
