Welcome to the TSRI Citrix Reference Site
The IT Services Department hopes this aids you in your experience
using Citrix, however, if you have questions, please call our Help Desk at extension 4-9369.
What is Citrix?
Citrix is a method for faculty and administrative staff to run
selected Windows programs from non-Windows computers. The programs run
on a central computer while you operate them from your computer.
Files may be accessed either in your group's shared space on the
central server, or on your computer. Printing may done to
your computer's default printer.
Citrix is very efficient and will work effectively even on
a slow network connection. Only the mouse movements and
pixels that change are transmitted over the network.
Why would I use it?
Where are my files: On my computer or on the server?
Your "Home Directory" on your local computer is mapped as a drive on the Citrix
Server; as long as you store your documents on the mapped drive, they
will be stored on your computer.
What about printing?
Documents printed from an application within Citrix will print on your default
printer.
NOTE: The Web Client for Mac OS X and Unix
does not do the required printer mapping for printing to work; if
you are a Mac or Unix user and wish to print from an Application in Citrix,
you must install the Standalone Citrix
client application instead of the Web client.
How do I use it?
Ensure you have an Active Directory account. If you are unsure
as to whether or not you already have one, please call our Help
Desk at extention 4-9369.
