About IT Services
IT Services (formerly Research Computing) is responsible for the administration and security of the campus data network, for maintenance of network-connected computing devices as required for campus data processing infrastructure, and maintenance of computing devices as desired by the TSRI laboratory and shared service groups (per the subscription schedule detailed in the FAQ)
These services include connectivity to the Internet, e-mail access, central compute and data archival systems for research, and provision adequate network capacity to service and laboratories. The aforementioned support is provided as part of Institute infrastructure.
In certain situations, laboratories are expected to cost-share or fully cover costs. One example is that of specialized networking needs. A lab requiring network connectivity for lab compute clusters will be required to fund the needed network equipment. An example of cost-sharing is use of the data archive system. A storage fee applies, but this covers only the incremental cost of tape. The large majority of the archive system operation is funded by TSRI.
In addition, IT Services is responsible for auditing copyright protected software installed on all TSRI computers as well as all personal computers that are used at TSRI.
Note: All computers at TSRI, personal or institutional, must be identified with a Computer Software Tag. These tags are issued by Procurement at the time of purchase or by IT Services.
