The Harold L. Dorris Neurological Research Center

The Harold L. Dorris Neurological Research Center was founded in 1999 as the result of a long-term commitment by the Harold L. Dorris Foundation under the leadership of Helen L. Dorris.

The center investigates a variety of neurological disorders, including schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as increasing scientists’ understanding of the aging process in the brain. The center has attracted an international team of brain specialists, led by Tamas Bartfai, Ph.D., former head of central nervous system research at Hoffman-LaRoche pharmaceutical company in Basel, Switzerland, and former chairman of the department of neurochemistry and neurotoxicity at Sweden’s Stockholm University.

Naming Opportunities
The center seeks private funding to supplement the original grant of $10 million in order to recruit additional senior faculty (named faculty chairs at $1,500,000 each), establish named fellowships ($1,500,000 each), and create visiting professorship appointments of four months ($50,000 each). Specific program funding in the range of $50,000 to $300,000 for new scholars is also a priority.
