At The Scripps Research Institute, we have much to celebrate as we look back at the past year's many accomplishments, the culmination of 50 years of the Institute's focus on biomedical science.

For 2011, we applaud much seminal science, the award of the Nobel Prize and other honors to our faculty, the reaccreditation of our esteemed graduate program for the next 10 years, notable grants and gifts, and the approval of a new drug for lupus based on technology developed at the institute. We have truly made remarkable strides this year – please take a moment to review some of the many highlights from 2011.

Screening for Nature’s Bounty

Scientists have long known that nature holds the key to so many of the world's scientific problems. But modern drug discovery methods have been stymied in their attempts to tap nature's solutions.

Now, Scripps Research investigators have developed a method that turns the power of synthetic chemistry to nature's models. Combined with advanced screening technologies, the new approach could eventually expand by millions the number of synthetic compounds available to explore as potential drug candidates.
