Identifying Lupus's Key Culprits
Lucy O'Donnell ascended to international fame at age four, when John Lennon's son painted a picture of her and took it home to his father, who was inspired to compose "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."
O'Donnell was never terribly fond of the song, but before her death from lupus this September at age 46, she tried to put that fame to use in fighting the disease that ultimately killed her.
To this day, lupus has no cure, but a recent finding by Scripps Research investigators brings us a step closer to that goal.

Decoding Chemotherapy Resistance
What can a doctor say when chemotherapy has failed? This grim situation is made worse by the fact that experts are more or less at a loss to explain why. Many of the key mechanisms behind chemotherapy drug resistance have been cloaked in mystery.
That is, until recently, when Scripps Research investigators were able to lift part of that cloak. The team's findings shed light on a key player in this mystery and offer up promising new possibilities for improving the efficacy of existing drugs.
