PhilanthropyLawrence J. and Florence A. De George: The Humanity of ScrippsLawrence J. and Florence A. De George of Jupiter, Florida, are among the most respected members of South Florida’s prolific philanthropic culture. Florence was a commercial interior designer and investor in New York, where she met and married her husband, a World War II veteran, Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Columbia University, and former chairman and CEO of Amphenol Corp. (NYSE). Active as a merchant banker and lender, Larry serves as senior partner of DeG Capital Partners, LTD, and with Florence, as co-founder of the Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust, the foundation which is run from DeG’s Jupiter office. Through their foundation, the couple has given generously to the Boys & Girls Clubs, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and-most recently-to The Scripps Research Institute. Their son Lawrence F. De George, a V.M.D. graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and successful businessman, is actively involved in the research community. For the love of humanity through the advancement of bioscience, Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George gave a gift of $1 million to help Scripps Florida, and to set an example for others.
