Jupiter, Florida- Prof. Roy A. Periana and coworkers published a paper in Science Magazine title "Main group compounds selectively oxidize mixtures of methane, ethane, and propane to alcohol esters."This paper described the highly selective conversion of the major components of natural gas (methane, ethane, and propane) in a mixture or separately into the corresponding alcohol esters using earth-abundant main group compounds. This paper has been discussed in both local (The Sun Sentinel and The Palm Beach Post) major new outlets such as NBCnews, Bloomberg, USAToday, CBCnews, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, and many others. Houston, Texas- Prof. Roy A. Periana was featured as speaker at the 2012 Welch Conference on Chemical Research. Each year since 1957, The Welch Foundation hosts a conference which draws leading scientists from around the world to explore state-of-the-art research in various areas of chemistry. The Foundation sponsors these annual conferences in order to support increased fundamental research in chemistry. It is the Foundation’s desire to present programs with cutting-edge research in a variety of different areas of chemistry. His talk was entitled, "The Design and Study of Molecular Catalysts for Strong Bond Activation and Conversion."

Jupiter, Florida- Prof. Roy A. Periana was featured as the keynote speaker at the most recent Front Lines of Hope Seminar series presented by the The Scripps Florida Council. Prof. Periana is a leading expert in the study of homogeneous catalysts for the activation and manipulation of strong bonds such as methane into useful products. He has been featured in a wide variety of print media such as Science, Chemical & Engineering News, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. He presented a seminar tonight titled, "Clean Energy is Possible: How Scripps and NextEra Collaborate to Make It Practical and Plentiful."
